When your case goes to court, your DUI Defense Attorney will present your case by giving the facts only. It is not advisable to go to court without representation from an expert attorney. If you represent yourself, it is possible that you might become emotional, which could lead you to omit facts or misspeak about what actually happened, leaving the judge with incomplete or incorrect facts of the case. A DUI Attorney is impartial and will present the timeline of the arrest, charges and facts in an efficient manner, in order for the judge to make a more informed decision about how to proceed.

A good DUI Lawyer will also assist you with getting the most reasonable consequences based on all the facts of your case. Because of their extensive and intricate knowledge of the Connecticut DUI/OUI Laws, they might even be able to mitigate your consequences to the minimum, even if you are found guilty.

Lastly, the paperwork alone that results from a DUI charge can be very overwhelming. With a DUI Attorney by your side, you will not be so stressed while combing through tons of paperwork that you do not understand. Your DUI Lawyer will be able to explain each item to you so that you understand all the facts and implications of the severity of your DUI charge situation.

DUI Attorney Woodstock Connecticut

Since July 1, 2015 the following are the current penalties for DUI.

  1. For the first conviction of DWI/DUI/OUI, the offender will usually receive 45-day license suspension. If the suspension has already been served at the time of sentencing, then the offender may immediately collect their license, provided there are no other suspensions in place. The convicted must also install the Ignition Interlock Device and keep it installed for one year, once they have their license reinstated.
  2. For DWI second offense punishments, the offender will have their license suspended for 45 days. If the suspension has already been served, then the convicted person will have their license restored immediately. The convicted then must install the Ignition Interlock Device, and the device must remain in place for three years.
  3. On a third or subsequent conviction, the convicted person will have their license permanently revoked. After two years, the convicted will be able to petition for reconsideration of the revocation.
