CT Special Operator's Permit or Work Permit

I tell everyone I represent to fill out the permit. There is some lag time in obtaining the permit and if you lose the DMV or DUI matter you want to have the special permit in place.

Special Operator's Permit to Drive to Work
Special Operator's Permits to drive to work are authorized in accordance with Connecticut State Law Title 14 Sec. 14-37a and defined in the Regulations of Connecticut State Agencies in Sec.14-37a.

To obtain an Application for Special Permit to Operate a Motor Vehicle To and From Work (pdf) (form A-62), click on the preceding link which will allow you to download the form online. If you are unable to download the form, please call the Driver Services Division at 860-263-5720 and select number 1 (if you have a touch-tone phone), then option 7 from the main menu and follow the instructions. By the end of the next business day, an application will be mailed to you.

Applications are only processed by mail. Responses will be returned following receipt of a completed application. Applications should be addressed to:

Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles
Driver Services Division
60 State Street
Wethersfield, CT 06161-2525

Special Operator's Permits are subject to strict standards for approval and use. Misuse of a permit or receipt of a traffic citation, leading to license suspension while operating under a permit, may result in substantially enhanced penalties.

Note: Please clearly print your name, current address and date of birth on the application. You cannot operate a motor vehicle until you receive an official notice from the Department of Motor Vehicles informing you that the Special Operator's Permit has been processed.
